Winter Clothing Reminder – We are starting to see temperatures drop and as winter weather is fast upon us we want to remind all families to please send your students to school with clothing that will keep them warm while they are outside (Jacket/coat, hat, gloves/mittens, etc.).
Carpool: We have received feedback from our community regarding morning carpool issues along 3600 West in front of the Granger-Hunter water district. We are seeing an increase of parents dropping their students off along 3600 West. This is causing congestion to regular traffic flow into our parking lot due to stopped cars and an increased number of pedestrian traffic. More importantly, we do not have personnel available to serve as a crossing guard across the driveway. This puts your students at risk. We ask that you do not drop off along 3600 West and use our carpool system as it has been implemented. Thank you for your cooperation.
Cell Phones, Tablets & Smart Watches: Devices with cellular capabilities are NOT authorized for student use from the time they enter the building in the morning, until they exit the building for dismissal/pickup. During carpool, while waiting at the curb, students are authorized to text and call ONLY. Cell phones and watches with cellular capabilities must be stored in backpacks at all times and will only be authorized to be taken out once the students exit the building at dismissal. Additionally, smart devices are NOT authorized for student use at any time while inside the building after hours. Students always have access to our school phones if they need to contact their parent or guardian and families can always call the school if they need to relay a message to their student.
We have launched a new initiative to help protect our students from the harms of social media (Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, etc.) and smart devices. Virtual Parent Empowerment: Mental Health and Wellness
Among the many lessons learned during the last few years has been just how important it is to pay attention to our mental health and wellness as well as our physical health. In reality, our physical and mental health are intertwined. Most symptoms of mental illness emerge in the teenage-young adult years. Join us in our Virtual Parent Empowerment on Tuesday, November 14th at 7 pm as we explore what is mental health, how to identify symptoms of mental illness and how to get help, and the protective factors to help avoid serious issues. Students in the secondary grades will receive 2 tardy credits for each adult who attends this as well as for themselves. This topic is appropriate for students and parents so invite your students to participate with you. See you on zoom! Join Zoom Meeting. https://uetn-org.zoom.us/j/83457687165

Sistema Notes ♪
Happy November! We are excited to continue to work on our Winter Concert music – hooray! With that being said, please make sure that your child attends Sistema every day so that they can learn the music and perform in our concert. Concerts are a BIG DEAL in our Sistema Utah program as we only have two concerts annually. Our concert will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 at 6 p.m. in the Small Gym on campus.
With the cooler weather comes sickness. As a reminder, if your child has to miss Sistema because they are sick or if they have a previously scheduled appointment, you need to call the Sistema office to let us know they will be missing that day. Our phone number is 385-351-3090, ext. 1139 where you will leave a message if we do not answer. You may also email Mrs. Christensen at tchristensen@apamail.org.
For students that have a walking pass, it is officially time to start coming to pick them up at the conclusion of our Sistema day. Now that it is dark when we dismiss and/or inclement weather beginning, we will not be able to let them walk home. Thank you for helping us to keep our students safe.
This Wednesday, November 15th at 5 p.m. is our Sistema Staff and Student Showcase in the MP Room. We would love to have you join us for this performance. If your child will be participating with their class, they were sent home with a flier stapled to their learning plan on Friday. Any questions can be directed to Mrs. Christensen tchristensen@apamail.org.
Our Sistema Strings students will be performing the National Anthem on Tuesday, December 5th for the University of Utah Men’s Basketball game that will be held at the Huntsman Center. They have developed a ticket discount for anyone who would like to attend to support us. Tickets are $3 each and can be ordered here.
We have a few events taking place this term. Please make a note of the following on your family calendar:
- Wednesday, November 15th – Sistema Staff and Student Showcase 5 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 22 through Friday, November 24th – No School/No Sistema for Thanksgiving Break

We are excited to announce that we will be partnering with Globus Relief this year by collecting hygiene items that will be distributed to refugee camps, charitable clinics, orphanages, and areas affected by natural disasters.
Items To Be Collected: Any size of shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, soap (either body wash or solid bar soap), lotion, Kleenex packages, deodorant and dental floss, and standard sized toothbrushes and packaged combs/brushes.
More details to come, but get ready to show we can be Heroes of Hygiene!
