Background - I grew up in Holladay, UT and I have always enjoyed sports, skiing and camping. I attended Skyline High School and then enrolled at the University of Utah. After an LDS Spanish speaking missing to Connecticut I transferred to Brigham Young University where I finished my undergraduate degree in Psychology. In 2017 I received a masters degree from Central Michigan University in Education Leadership. I have been working at American Prep since 2008 and I cannot think of a better, more fulfilling career. I love working with our wonderful students and exceptional staff. Every year we seem to improve our school and we become a more unified school community. I am grateful to be a part of this incredible academy.
Hobbies - My favorite thing to do is spend time with my wife and our four children. We love taking little trips and going fun places together. I enjoy being active and try to find time to ski, hike and camp. Though I am slower now, I still play soccer competitively.
Education - Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science, University of Utah
Background - I was born and raised in Utah. I come from a fairly large family and love the time I spend with my five siblings and my own little family of five. I served an LDS Mission in southern Chile and loved my time learning the culture and working with amazing people. I worked in health care administration for a few years at an assisted living center and home health care company. I've now been with APA for six years and love my experience with the students and staff here.
Hobbies - I am a sports enthusiast and enjoy anything that has a ball. I absolutely love being outdoors climbing, rappelling and hiking. My Disneyland is actually Zion National Park.
Education: I have a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah in Mathematics Teaching, I have a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix, and I have a Master of Arts degree from Central Michigan University with an emphasis in Educational Leadership.
Background: Before working at APA I worked as a custodian in order to pay for college. In 2008 I was hired to teach junior high math at what is now referred to as Draper 1. When the West Valley 1 campus opened I requested a transfer to work there and taught math there for two years. In 2011 I had the opportunity to step into an administrative roll at Excelsior Academy, where I worked as the Junior High Director for three years. In 2014 I returned to APA and began working at the West Valley 2 campus as an Assistant Secondary Director and Athletic Director. I have since passed on the Athletic Director responsibilities and currently hold the title of Assistant Secondary Director.
Hobbies: I love fishing, I love basketball, and I love learning.

Background - I grew up in Salt Lake City and attended Highland High School. After high school, I attended BYU and played on their women's lacrosse team. I then worked for the American Diabetes Association as their event director. I worked at the ADA for a little over two years then came to APA. I also coach the Brighton High Girls' Lacrosse team.
Hobbies - I've always been a big sports fan: watching or playing. I love playing lacrosse, backpacking, riding horses, and doing anything outside. I have a black lab named Nike.
Education - Currently Enrolled at WGU for Biology Secondary Education
Background - I started out working in the food industry as a line cook at a Mexican restaurant called Durangos. After spending 10 years in various kitchens and catering companies, I decided it was time for a change. I had a bunch of different "Joe" jobs before I ended up at APA.

Education - Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University-Idaho, Level 2 teaching license here in Utah.
Background - I am originally from Washington state (Seattle area) but moved to Utah three years ago to teach school. I am a fourth grade teacher here at APA and I absolutely love it! I taught 3rd grade for 5 years prior, as well as other para-educator and substitute work in schools. I knew when I was 5 years old that teaching was a passion of mine and I was not wrong! I have a special place in my heart for students who struggle to see the purpose in their education and I love to help them love learning! My favorite subject to teach is math. Hobbies - I have lived all across the United States, including Texas, South Dakota, Michigan, Las Vegas, and the Pacific Northwest Area. I enjoy spending time with my husband and our adorable beagle. Together we like to go camping and watch movies. I also enjoy playing the piano, listening to music, and spending as much time possible with family and friends.
Education - BS in Sociology from SUNY Albany and a Masters of Science in Elementary Education from the College of Saint Rose.
Background - I grew up in Guilderland, NY and had lived there most of my life. Living in New York, I had the opportunity to play sports all throughout my childhood, high school, and college. One of my favorite sports growing up was soccer, which I started at a young age. Another sport that I played was lacrosse and was able to get a scholarship and play in college. The school I attended was SUNY Albany where I played lacrosse and participated in many volunteer activities. Throughout my three years attending graduate school, I worked in a daycare. Starting as a teacher I was working my way to become the director of the daycare. I absolutely loved working with the infants and seeing them grow; watching them graduate from preschool and enter into the elementary setting. The spring I graduated from the College of Saint Rose I moved from Albany to Salt Lake City and started working for APA in the fall of 2013. This is my fifth year teaching at APA and I have loved every second of it. I have learned and grown as much as my students have.
Hobbies - Outside of school I am a HUGE fan of the outdoors. I love to hike, backpack, mountain bike, and ski. Last summer I hiked around 200 miles. It has been a fantastic opportunity moving and growing in Utah and I look forward to getting to know your students.
Background - My education adventure has included the opportunity to teach in Utah, Idaho, and Georgia. I have enjoyed the opportunity to educate students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. This is my first year at APA and I am eager to adopt this amazing philosophy.
Hobbies - In addition to education, I have a fabulous family that includes my husband and four beautiful daughters. We enjoy exploring the breathtaking mountains of Utah in our free time.
Education - I am currently working on my teaching degree at Salt Lake Community College.
Background - I am a second grade instructor at APA West Valley 2 campus. I am in my third year of instructing. I love working with the students and teaching them useful skills that will help them be the best they can be. I am excited to be working with the 2nd grade team and I know it’s going to be a great year!
Education - Double major in Elementary Education and General Music from the University of Utah.
Background - After earning my degrees, I then became certified as an elementary music teacher when I lived in Washington DC. Later, I earned a Master’s Degree in Elementary Math Education but my passion is in teaching music. I am thrilled to be starting my fifth year as the Elementary Music teacher at American Prep.
Hobbies - I love all this chips and dip or cracker and cheese. I love grapes but I only tolerate bananas. I have been skydiving over the Utah Salt Flats and hang gliding over the Swiss Alps and I love to knit and cook. I am the mother of a wonderful nine year old boy.
Education - Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in Painting and Drawing from the University of Utah in 2012.
Background - I teach elementary art at the West Valley 2 campus and this is my fourth year teaching art at APA. Along with teaching, I am also a professional artist having shown in major art galleries in Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah. I truly believe that every child is an artist and I love each day that I get to spend developing art skills and teaching art history to our brilliant young students.
Hobbies - Aside from art, I love spending time with my husband and our two dogs, my family, and my amazing nieces and nephews!

Background - Much of my teaching has been done in the corporate world as a trainer for various software developers, but I'm very pleased to have escaped to a better place. I've also done the rounds as a substitute teacher for public and private schools with some community education thrown in the mix. For about ten years, I made a living as a magician-slash-illusionist, appearing primarily in the western United States. Some favorite gigs were performing with the Utah Symphony and touring for a season with Odyssey Dance Theater's "Thriller" program. More recently, I returned to creative writing and had a few short stories published. My first novel briefly enjoyed a #1 spot on Amazon and I'm working on book three of that series, writing under the pen name Michael Darling. Because Neverland is always closer than you think.
Background - I started out in management at the age of 18. I managed restaurants for almost 10 years where I was over multiple employees, finances, and all other aspects of the business. Previously, I co-owned a painting company where I took care of the billing, bids, scheduling, and other paperwork. I also worked at the construction sites often. I took a year off work to stay at home with my kids before coming to APA in 2015.
Hobbies - I have many different hobbies. Most of them include my family and the outdoors. I love to camp, hike, fish, and do anything that gets me to the mountains. I am also an avid runner and love any kind of sport. I played volleyball, basketball, and softball in high school and still love to play all of these. I love to read. I read

Background - I was born on Staten Island, New York. This is my 25th year of teaching and fourth year at APA. I have been married to my wife, Nancy, since 1981 and have two sons, Shannon and Benjamin.
Hobbies - I love hiking, biking, mountain climbing, drawing and painting, and collecting and flying all kinds of flags. I am also a HUGE Green Bay Packers fan! I love my dog, three cats, two turtles and goldfish. I won a bronze medal for the sport of Luge at the 2009 Utah State Winter Games in Park City, Utah. I received a personally written and signed letter from President Barack Obama last school year here at APA.
Education - Bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education, minor in religious studies, University of Wyoming
Background - This is my third year at APA. I previously taught in both Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Hobbies - While academic activities take up a vast majority of my time (including, but not limited to, reading, going to museums, watching documentaries), I also enjoy playing guitar and studying a wide range of martial arts.
Education - Bachelor’s degree in ancient civilizations, University of Iowa
Background - For six exciting months, I worked at Walt Disney World in Florida. My roles there included cooking thousands of turkey legs a day and performing in the evening parades as Goofy. Most of my working years were spent in a grocery store back in Iowa, where I eventually became a chef.
Hobbies - My favorite hobby is hiking. When I'm not in the mountains, I enjoy reading, cooking, and writing.

Background - My first job out of college was as an environmental engineer at US Steel. After that, I was a real estate broker for 15 years in California, taught Real Estate and Finance for eight years at College of the Canyons, and even taught high school at the Utah State prison for a year. Raising my four children also took some time.
Hobbies - I live on a tiny farm and spend my summers and weekends weeding the garden, thinning the orchard, and tending the chickens. I'm hoping to add bees to the farm next year. I also love hanging out with my three grandchildren, playing with my dog, Toby, and sitting by the ocean whenever I get the chance.

Background - This is my 4th year teaching at APA. I love it! I have wanted to be a teacher as long as I can remember. It is a privilege to love what I do and where I work.
Hobbies - I enjoy rock climbing throughout Big Cottonwood Canyon in the summer and at Momentum Indoor Gym during the school year. I also enjoy baking cookies, playing crazy intense board games, and delighting in the company of friends over delicious food.

Background - I have worked at APA for two years and have enjoyed every second of it. I'm really looking forward to this upcoming year and getting to know all of the fantastic students here.
Hobbies - I love swimming, watching the Olympic swimming events, any of the Olympic events, jamming out to music in the car, laughing with friends and family, eating Chinese food, eating any kind of food, smiling, and helping others. Some of my hobbies are hiking, camping, racquetball, yoga, reading, and watching movies.
Education - I graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.
Background - I was born and raised in Utah and I am the oldest of three children. I grew up in West Jordan and I attended Copper Hills High school and was very involved. When I graduated, I got accepted into the ACCESS program from Women in Math and Science. I dabbled in the STEM field, and I was able to do lots of research in the biomedical field. However, I soon realized where my passion fell and I pursued a degree in Mathematics.
Hobbies - Some of my hobbies include playing board games or doing puzzles, hiking, camping and rock climbing, and, of course, doing anything Disney related.
Background - I spent 6 years working as a project engineer for a construction company, and ultimately decided to pursue teaching since I had always wanted to be a teacher. I am super excited to be teaching Math here at APA this year!
Hobbies - I like to dance, cook, knit, crochet, sew and recently started teaching myself to decorate cakes.
Education - Bachelor of Arts in chemistry, minor in mathematics, Wichita State University; Master degree in chemistry, Wichita State University
Background - I started at APA in 2012 as a fifth grade classroom instructor, moving up to teach Math and Chemistry at the secondary level. Previously, I had worked as an elementary substitute teacher, college instructor, and mentor for a science summer camp.
Hobbies - I enjoy finding new recipes to prepare, camping, and hiking. My favorite place to visit is the central coast region in California.
Education - Master of Science in plant science, Master of Education in science education/curriculum & instruction, University of Minnesota.
Background - I was a science educator at Bell Museum of Natural History of Science at University of Minnesota. I also loved working as a summer camp instructor at Minnesota Zoo. I tutored college athletes while attending my Masters program. My passion for teaching and my love for kids is what made me join APA, and I am really looking forward to my upcoming teaching years here.
Hobbies - Cooking is my biggest stress-buster. Besides that, I love to hike and camp and be up close with nature.

Background - I've always loved running and playing sports. I competed in Track and Field throughout high school and loved every second of it. I also enjoy other sports and love pushing my body to be better. I've always wanted to find a profession to help others (and myself) reach the highest potential. I feel like I have found just that in this awesome institution.
Hobbies - Family is #1 for me. I love hanging out, going on road trips, and playing games with my family. I love doing fun runs/Spartans/Tough Mudders etc. with my awesome wife. I also enjoy playing guitar when I make time for it.

Background - I moved around growing up. I was born in Idaho and then moved around to Puerto Rico, Oregon, California, Washington and now I have stayed in Utah ever since attending BYU. I met my husband, Craig Peterson, at BYU and we have 4 little kids. I taught at Copper Hills until my 3rd child was born in 2013. I am excited to be back to teaching health at APA!
Hobbies - I love being active and weightlifting. I love running and ran my first half-marathon this year. I love beating my old time and seeing my pace improve. I self-taught myself how to use a DSLR camera the last few years and love taking pictures for family and friends. I love good music and to dance. I danced all growing up. I love coaching these as well and am highly competitive. I love good food. Eating out and finding yummy restaurants makes me happy. If you have a good place I should try, let me know!
Education - BS Exercise Science from the University of Utah
Background - I taught health and PE at American Heritage of South Jordan for 5 years from 2005-2010, and have since spent the last 7 years working in health and wellness, doing exercise testing and health screenings.
Hobbies - I enjoy sports of all kinds, especially basketball and football. My favorite activity when I have time is cycling. I like participating in organized rides and I try to do at least one century (100 mile ride) every year.

Background - I've lived in Utah for the past 17 years with my husband and two dogs, Mercury and Izzy. I have been teaching and playing professionally with the Ballet West Orchestra and, on occasion, the Utah Symphony. I love to trail run, backpack, and try out new restaurants in the city. I've been teaching at APA for the past 6 years and love working with the students every year!

Former Teacher at Casa de la Cultura of Rancagua, Municipalidad de Los Angeles, Concepcion and Talcahuano, Chile.

Background - I have taught dance at various studios in California, Utah, Nebraska, and Iowa since 2008. I have also taught and choreographed for the SUU Ballroom Dance Company, as well as the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Ballroom Dance Company.
Hobbies - My hobbies include dance, swimming, reading, Crossfit, and being outdoors.

Background - I'm originally from Sacramento, Ca., and I have a wife and three wonderful children. I served a mission for the LDS church in Kiev, Ukraine. After my time in college, I spent many years in New York City where I worked as an actor and theatre professional. Here in Utah I work as an actor, voice-over artist, theatre company managing director, and now teacher.
Hobbies - Gardening, Model ship, car, and plane building, & Archery.

Background - I grew up in the heart of Los Angeles, although I miss Los Angeles I enjoy living in Utah. My career led me to work with non profits who served populations in distress. I have enjoyed working within the educational system and offer my skills to help students achieve success.
Hobbies - I like rock climbing, backpacking, riding my motorcycle and going on runs with my dog Miko.

Background - I was raised in a family of seven children in Ogden. I attended Weber State College right after high school, and left college as a sophomore to live in different areas of the globe with my military spouse. When my youngest child started third grade, I resumed my teacher education in Elementary and Special Education at Weber. I taught for Davis and Ogden School Districts before coming to APA in March 2015. I love teaching children of all ages and want each student to see that he/she is capable of amazing things.

Background - Special Education is my passion, and I have been working with these wonderful students for 11 years. I started in Special Education while working at Taylorsville High School, where I gained my love for working with Sped students. Currently, I feel very lucky to be teaching here at APA, where the students are truly loved and respected in every way.
Hobbies - I enjoy sewing and tying quilts and making things with my hands to give to children here and out of the country. I also love to read Family and my students at APA are where I focus most of my time. I am most happy when I am with them.
Education - I graduated from the University of Utah with a BS in Health Promotion and Education with an emphasis in Emergency Medical Services.
Background - I went to school thinking that I would become a paramedic, but while I was there I got involved in after school programs and found a passion working with youth. Prior to joining the APA team, I was working with the Sugar House Boys & Girls Club as their Assistant Child Care Director.
Hobbies - I love sports and video games. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family.
