Background - I grew up in Holladay, UT and I have always enjoyed sports, skiing and camping. I attended Skyline High School and then enrolled at the University of Utah. After an LDS Spanish speaking missing to Connecticut I transferred to Brigham Young University where I finished my undergraduate degree in Psychology. In 2017 I received a masters degree from Central Michigan University in Education Leadership. I have been working at American Prep since 2008 and I cannot think of a better, more fulfilling career. I love working with our wonderful students and exceptional staff. Every year we seem to improve our school and we become a more unified school community. I am grateful to be a part of this incredible academy.
Hobbies - My favorite thing to do is spend time with my wife and our four children. We love taking little trips and going fun places together. I enjoy being active and try to find time to ski, hike and camp. Though I am slower now, I still play soccer competitively.

Background - I was born and raised in Utah. I come from a fairly large family and love the time I spend with my five siblings and my own little family of five. I served an LDS Mission in southern Chile and loved my time learning the culture and working with amazing people. I worked in health care administration for a few years at an assisted living center and home health care company. I've now been with APA for six years and love my experience with the students and staff here.
Hobbies - I am a sports enthusiast and enjoy anything that has a ball. I absolutely love being outdoors climbing, rappelling and hiking. My Disneyland is actually Zion National Park.
Education: I have a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah in Mathematics Teaching, I have a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix, and I have a Master of Arts degree from Central Michigan University with an emphasis in Educational Leadership.
Background: Before working at APA I worked as a custodian in order to pay for college. In 2008 I was hired to teach junior high math at what is now referred to as Draper 1. When the West Valley 1 campus opened I requested a transfer to work there and taught math there for two years. In 2011 I had the opportunity to step into an administrative roll at Excelsior Academy, where I worked as the Junior High Director for three years. In 2014 I returned to APA and began working at the West Valley 2 campus as an Assistant Secondary Director and Athletic Director. I have since passed on the Athletic Director responsibilities and currently hold the title of Assistant Secondary Director.
Hobbies: I love fishing, I love basketball, and I love learning.
Education: I received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Business Marketing Education from Weber State University. I also completed my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Weber State University. I later obtained a Master in Educational Leadership at the University of Wyoming to obtain my principal certificate. I have become a certified athletic administrator during my time at American Prep.
Background: I grew up in Randolph, UT near Bear Lake. My family runs a cattle and sheep ranch. They have 1,400 cows and 4,000 sheep. I enjoyed playing basketball and football for my high school. There were lots of days that were sun up to sun down, but it included riding horses, going to the mountains, and working with big equipment like tractors, semis, and dump trucks.
I taught physical education, business, and health for ten years. I have had the opportunity to coach baseball, soccer, football, and basketball during that time. I have been an athletic director since 2014. I became the assistant secondary director and athletic director at American Prep in the Spring of 2017.
Hobbies: I enjoy finding activities my family can be involved in. We enjoy doing things outdoors together. We also enjoy playing or watching sports with basketball and football topping the list.
Education - MBA- Business Management with a minor in Finance
Background - After serving in the United States Army for a number of years and playing semi-professional baseball I pursued a career in business. I have operated my own business as a Business and Financial Consultant for more than 18 years. During those 18 plus years I've had a very diverse working experience.
In 2015 I was convinced to leave the boardroom and enter the classroom to teach in Wendover, Utah. I taught for 3 years and coached baseball. During my time as a business teacher, I covered the entire business curriculum, teaching over 20 different classes every school year. After 3 years I returned to the business world for one year after which I felt that I needed to look into the education field again and started with American Preparatory Academy. I have so far enjoyed getting to know students and working with the staff and administration of the school.
Hobbies - I am a baseball fanatic. I always say that it is my sirens' call. I work with youth groups and women's organizations teaching them what I call Warrior Combat Defense which is a modified self-defense technique from what I learned in the military.
Background - During my Master's degree, I interned at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, where I did data entry for a study in hopes of better understanding how Veterans cope with trauma. I also have worked with kids who struggle with schoolwork and helped them maintain focus with different strategies.
Hobbies - I enjoy reading many different genres and watching movies.

Background - I have worked with family and youth for over 25 years in juvenile justice, mental health, and schools. I have been with APA since Fall 2012 and have fallen in love with all our APA families.
Hobbies - I like to spend time outside or snuggled inside with a good book or movie. I especially like to spend time with my family.

Background - Much of my teaching has been done in the corporate world as a trainer for various software developers, but I'm very pleased to have escaped to a better place. I've also done the rounds as a substitute teacher for public and private schools with some community education thrown in the mix. For about ten years, I made a living as a magician-slash-illusionist, appearing primarily in the western United States. Some favorite gigs were performing with the Utah Symphony and touring for a season with Odyssey Dance Theater's "Thriller" program. More recently, I returned to creative writing and had a few short stories published. My first novel briefly enjoyed a #1 spot on Amazon and I'm working on book three of that series, writing under the pen name Michael Darling. Because Neverland is always closer than you think.

Background -I taught at the University of Utah for ten years and have been in nutrition product development since 2014. Teaching is a passion whether through direct instruction, podcasting, content development or speaking. I love seeing students succeed.

Background - I was born on Staten Island, New York. This is my 25th year of teaching and fourth year at APA. I have been married to my wife, Nancy, since 1981 and have two sons, Shannon and Benjamin.
Hobbies - I love hiking, biking, mountain climbing, drawing and painting, and collecting and flying all kinds of flags. I am also a HUGE Green Bay Packers fan! I love my dog, three cats, two turtles and goldfish. I won a bronze medal for the sport of Luge at the 2009 Utah State Winter Games in Park City, Utah. I received a personally written and signed letter from President Barack Obama last school year here at APA.

Background: I moved to Utah with my husband in 2013. This is my 4th year teaching Latin with American Preparatory Academy. I come from a military family and have lived in Texas, New York, and New Mexico.
Hobbies: I enjoy reading, writing, music, fitness, cooking, hiking/camping, and playing with my dog.

Background: I graduated from BYU with a degree in Classical Studies, with dual emphases in Ancient Greek and Latin philology. I minored in Anthropology, and focused on Classical Archaeology and Museum Studies. Prior to my time at APA, I worked as an archaeologist, excavating a Roman-era site in Petra, Jordan, where I specialized in ancient pottery analysis.
Hobbies: Cassandra enjoys reading, baking, and visiting museums.

Background - For six exciting months, I worked at Walt Disney World in Florida. My roles there included cooking thousands of turkey legs a day and performing in the evening parades as Goofy. Most of my working years were spent in a grocery store back in Iowa, where I eventually became a chef.
Hobbies - My favorite hobby is hiking. When I'm not in the mountains, I enjoy reading, cooking, and writing.

Background - I spent several very fulfilling years as an undergraduate student at USU where I had the opportunity to help teach university-level Latin classes. After teaching at APA for three years, I moved to Tucson to get my Master's of Teaching where I studied with some of the most famous Classicists in the world.
Hobbies - When I'm not teaching, I love to cook, exercise, and spend time with my pets and my husband.

Background - My first job out of college was as an environmental engineer at US Steel. After that, I was a real estate broker for 15 years in California, taught Real Estate and Finance for eight years at College of the Canyons, and even taught high school at the Utah State prison for a year. Raising my four children also took some time.
Hobbies - I live on a tiny farm and spend my summers and weekends weeding the garden, thinning the orchard, and tending the chickens. I'm hoping to add bees to the farm next year. I also love hanging out with my three grandchildren, playing with my dog, Toby, and sitting by the ocean whenever I get the chance.

Background - This is my 4th year teaching at APA. I love it! I have wanted to be a teacher as long as I can remember. It is a privilege to love what I do and where I work.
Hobbies - I enjoy rock climbing throughout Big Cottonwood Canyon in the summer and at Momentum Indoor Gym during the school year. I also enjoy baking cookies, playing crazy intense board games, and delighting in the company of friends over delicious food.

Background - I have worked at APA for two years and have enjoyed every second of it. I'm really looking forward to this upcoming year and getting to know all of the fantastic students here.
Hobbies - I love swimming, watching the Olympic swimming events, any of the Olympic events, jamming out to music in the car, laughing with friends and family, eating Chinese food, eating any kind of food, smiling, and helping others. Some of my hobbies are hiking, camping, racquetball, yoga, reading, and watching movies.

Background - I have always loved being a teacher, I started out as a dance teacher, where I taught ballet, jazz, hip hop and tumbling. I coached for many Utah high school drill teams and dance companies over a span of 15 years. While I was coaching I attended Salt Lake Community College, where I received an associate’s degree in general studies with an emphasis on mild to moderate special education. I continued my education at Western Governors University with a focus on secondary 5-12 grade Mathematics. I have been in a secondary math classroom either as a tutor, substitute or teacher for 10 years.
Hobbies - I love, reading, swimming, being in the sun, and spending time with my 3 kids!

Background - I was born and raised in Utah and I am the oldest of three children. I grew up in West Jordan and I attended Copper Hills High school and was very involved. When I graduated, I got accepted into the ACCESS program from Women in Math and Science. I dabbled in the STEM field, and I was able to do lots of research in the biomedical field. However, I soon realized where my passion fell and I pursued a degree in Mathematics.
Hobbies - Some of my hobbies include playing board games or doing puzzles, hiking, camping and rock climbing, and, of course, doing anything Disney related.

Background - I have always enjoyed math. One of my confessions is that I do math for fun! Since high school, I have tutored friends, family members, and others. In 2018, I started my teaching career. One year later, I began teaching at APA
Hobbies -I enjoy a wide variety of things. I love to be out in nature, doing things such as hiking, camping, and cross-country skiing. I like playing games, and have even created a few card/board games of my own. Most of all, I love spending time with my family, whether it's going on an adventure, or cozying up at home.
Education: I have my Bachelors of Science in Biology with a minor in Environmental Studies.
Background: I grew up in Illinois and attended college at North Central College. During college I fell in love with outdoor adventures and learning about how the world around us works. I spent my four years of college tutoring students in the general science courses and encouraging females to join the scientific community through Saturday Science programs.
Hobbies: I love to be social and enjoy the great outdoors. In my free time I enjoy climbing, running, biking, and skiing. I also enjoy complex board games and crafting.

Background - I have been a Core Knowledge and Classical Education Science Teacher since the 2010 -2011 school year. I love teaching science. I have taught elementary, middle and high school science. I enjoy learning and teaching life science and anatomy and physiology. Before becoming a science teacher I worked in the information technology and pharmaceutical industries. I am a licensed teacher in both Colorado and Utah.
Hobbies - My hobbies include water color painting, family history and reading historical fiction.

Background - I have always had a fascination learning about the world around me and how it works. I earned a bachelor's degree and PhD in chemistry. In graduate school my research focused on atypical uses of DNA in nanotechnology. During my undergraduate and graduate studies, I found I also had the opportunity to teach various study sections and labs. I am excited to teach at APA and share the excitement of science with my students.
Hobbies - I love being outdoors, exploring and hiking in the mountains. I also enjoy cooking and creating new recipes.

Background - I've always loved running and playing sports. I competed in Track and Field throughout high school and loved every second of it. I also enjoy other sports and love pushing my body to be better. I've always wanted to find a profession to help others (and myself) reach the highest potential. I feel like I have found just that in this awesome institution.
Hobbies - Family is #1 for me. I love hanging out, going on road trips, and playing games with my family. I love doing fun runs/Spartans/Tough Mudders etc. with my awesome wife. I also enjoy playing guitar when I make time for it.

Background - I moved around growing up. I was born in Idaho and then moved around to Puerto Rico, Oregon, California, Washington and now I have stayed in Utah ever since attending BYU. I met my husband, Craig Peterson, at BYU and we have 4 little kids. I taught at Copper Hills until my 3rd child was born in 2013. I am excited to be back to teaching health at APA!
Hobbies - I love being active and weightlifting. I love running and ran my first half-marathon this year. I love beating my old time and seeing my pace improve. I self-taught myself how to use a DSLR camera the last few years and love taking pictures for family and friends. I love good music and to dance. I danced all growing up. I love coaching these as well and am highly competitive. I love good food. Eating out and finding yummy restaurants makes me happy. If you have a good place I should try, let me know!

Background - I taught health and PE at American Heritage of South Jordan for 5 years from 2005-2010, and have since spent the last 7 years working in health and wellness, doing exercise testing and health screenings.
Hobbies - I enjoy sports of all kinds, especially basketball and football. My favorite activity when I have time is cycling. I like participating in organized rides and I try to do at least one century (100 mile ride) every year.

Background: I have worked for over 10 years in the restaurant industry, holding positions such as Pastry Cook, Bread Baker, Line Cook, Chef de Partie, Assistant Manager, and General Manager. I have a big family, and grew up cooking and baking. Got started in the 4-H program and found my passion for baking. I studied American Sign Language for 4 years, where I met my husband. I have two beautiful daughters whom attend APA, and one little Brittany spaniel puppy.
Hobbies: My hobbies include: cooking and baking, drawing, sewing, gardening, hiking, and walking my puppy.

Background - This is my first year teaching at APA. I grew up in norther Wisconsin and started my teaching career in LaCrosse Wisconsin where I taught at the local middle schools and the juvenile detention center. Growing up i enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing all sports. In high school I played baseball, basketball, and football. In college, I played baseball as well. I am the varsity baseball coach here at APA.
Hobbies: My hobbies include: exercising, baseball, hunting, fishing, snowboarding, rock climbing and mountain biking. I basically enjoy doing anything where I can be physically and mentally challenged, be outside, and be competitive.

Background - I've lived in Utah for the past 17 years with my husband and two dogs, Mercury and Izzy. I have been teaching and playing professionally with the Ballet West Orchestra and, on occasion, the Utah Symphony. I love to trail run, backpack, and try out new restaurants in the city. I've been teaching at APA for the past 6 years and love working with the students every year!

Background: He is also a Suzuki Certified Violin Teacher, teaching up to Book 7 and in the summer will certify up to Book 9. Rodrigo lives in Midvale and is from Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Rodrigo has experience as a violin teacher in school with kindergarten children, and as a violin and orchestra teacher in elementary and high school from 2006 - 2013 in Ecuador. He taught violin classes in a music Conservatory from 2010 -2013, where he graduated as a teacher in 2011. He continues practicing his profession of being a violin teacher and was also a member of the Symphonic Orchestra of Guayaquil-Ecuador from 2003 to 2013.

Background - I'm originally from Sacramento, Ca., and I have a wife and three wonderful children. I served a mission for the LDS church in Kiev, Ukraine. After my time in college, I spent many years in New York City where I worked as an actor and theatre professional. Here in Utah I work as an actor, voice-over artist, theatre company managing director, and now teacher.
Hobbies - Gardening, Model ship, car, and plane building, & Archery.

Background - I grew up in the Salt Lake City area, but have lived in and traveled to much of the world. I served an LDS mission to Switzerland and speak German. I pursued a career in executive level management in large international businesses, traveling the globe and living with my wife and seven children in the U.S. Midwest, Bangkok Thailand/Indochina, and Jakarta Indonesia. I am also a serial entrepreneur in a variety of creative ventures. I have been active in music performance and education my entire life, including as a private vocal coach, and recently singing for several years with the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
Hobbies - Music composition, BYU football, golf, and grandkids.
Background: I claim homage to both Canada and the United States as I was born in Alberta Canada, but moved to the east coast in the US at a young age. I still go home to Canada and Maryland as often as I can. I came out west to follow my scholarship for college and have been here ever since. I worked for an adolescent teen live in center helping youth find support systems in and outside of their home as well as planning large scale events to help fund the non profit. I have specialized in ABA therapy and developmental disorders. My personal passion led me to study eating disorders and anti-diet culture. I love working with youth and enjoy the variety of my work at APA!
Hobbies: Weight lifting, boxing, hiking, baking, writing, reading, cheesy movies with my pup and all the traveling I can plan.

Background - I was raised in a family of seven children in Ogden. I attended Weber State College right after high school, and left college as a sophomore to live in different areas of the globe with my military spouse. When my youngest child started third grade, I resumed my teacher education in Elementary and Special Education at Weber. I taught for Davis and Ogden School Districts before coming to APA in March 2015. I love teaching children of all ages and want each student to see that he/she is capable of amazing things.

Background - Special Education is my passion, and I have been working with these wonderful students for 11 years. I started in Special Education while working at Taylorsville High School, where I gained my love for working with Sped students. Currently, I feel very lucky to be teaching here at APA, where the students are truly loved and respected in every way.
Hobbies - I enjoy sewing and tying quilts and making things with my hands to give to children here and out of the country. I also love to read Family and my students at APA are where I focus most of my time. I am most happy when I am with them.

Background: I was born in the Bronx, NY. I started playing travel basketball in Harlem, NYC and went on to play for 14 years. I was a competitive spoken word artist for 6 years and taught poetry workshops to high school students. I've lived in New York, Florida, Massachusetts, India, Peru, Dominican Republic, Ghana, and Mexico. I worked as a writing mentor for Girls Right Now in NYC during high school. I worked for Cornell University as the community manager for their Summer of Solutions program. Working in Ithaca, NY helped me move on to work as the community manager for Poetry.org as an editor, scholarship creator, and content developer. After graduate school, I moved to Utah to work as a wilderness therapy counselor giving writing classes and helping youth facing mental health challenges. I am now at American Prep Academy working with amazing youth.
Hobbies: I am certified private yoga instructor and I love self-practice. I love mountaineering, climbing, and backpacking. i spend most of my free time reading about indigenous spiritualities and culture, writing poetry, and planning backpacking trips abroad.
Background - My family moved to Utah when I was about five years old and we've been here since. I worked for the Waterford Institute with their UPSTART program as well as with youth summer camps. I served an LDS Spanish speaking mission in southern California. I am currently attending USU and I love it!
Hobbies - I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, being outdoors, crafts, and watching movies and sports.

Background - I grew up in the South and moved to Utah when I was 18. My first real job was working at Target and I loved it so much that I stayed there for 20 years. Working at Target gave me the opportunity to learn many different thing, but the most important was customer service. I came to APA in 2017, scared to start this new chapter in my life, but excited. I love working with students and families! I pride myself on knowing student names and who their parents are.
Hobbies - I love to craft and go camping with my family.
Education - I graduated from the University of Utah with a BS in Health Promotion and Education with an emphasis in Emergency Medical Services.
Background - I went to school thinking that I would become a paramedic, but while I was there I got involved in after school programs and found a passion working with youth. Prior to joining the APA team, I was working with the Sugar House Boys & Girls Club as their Assistant Child Care Director.
Hobbies - I love sports and video games. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family.
Background: For the past three years Mr. Mckee has worked for the After School Department at West Valley 1, He now works for the After School Department for West Valley 2, as well as assisted in the Pre-School/Daycare in the mornings.

Background: Originally from Tucson, Arizona, I moved to Utah about 4 years ago to pursue a degree in Video Game Design. After a couple of years, I realized that my passions actually lie in Astrophysics. Currently, I am pursuing a degree in Physics from Salt Lake Community College. My long term goal is earn a Ph.D. and become a professor of Physics and Astrophysics.

Background: I graduated from Hunter High School in 2017. I am currently a student at Salt Lake Community College. I am expected to graduate this following summer of May, 2020 with my AAS in Psychology. After graduating, I plan on transferring to the University of Utah to continue on furthering my education. My end goal is becoming a high school teacher, teaching Psychology & Spanish. :)
Hobbies: I enjoy power-lifting, motorcycle riding, and playing soccer on my spare time.
