I am a builder when I use … KIND AND COURTEOUS WORDS (changing the world for the better)
James: “You’re a hero”. Earthworm: “I am, I am wonderworm!”- James and the Giant Peach Ronald Dahl
The theme of James and the Giant Peach is that it’s never too late to make friends. Even though James loses his parents and his aunts are mean to him, he still desires to make friends who care about him, and he doesn’t give up. Have you ever desired anything? To desire means to want something very badly. Have you ever been alone on the playground during recess and wished you had someone to play with? If so, then you know exactly how James felt in the story when he desired to make friends. In the end, James is lucky to make new friends on his journey across the Atlantic Ocean in a giant peach!
Today, take the time to meet a new person, make a new friend and be kind to each other.

VIRTUAL PARENT EMPOWERMENT-SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND ADDICTION
The teenage brain develops rapidly during the school years and is very susceptible to addictions. We have invited Libby Cain, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, to help us learn how to recognize when problems are occurring and get them help. We will talk about different types of addictions, substances, vaping, as well as prevention and ways to help our youth be resilient.
Please join us on Tuesday, April 12, 7:00 pm via zoom. You will receive valuable information. This presentation is appropriate for students as well. Each campus will provide an incentive for your attendance.

APA Multicultural Festival
Hello Parents, APA is preparing for our Annual Multicultural Festival on April 16th, 3-5pm. We will have food, performances, vendors and lots of fun! All students and families are WELCOME. We are looking for families to come and present information about their country of origin. We will provide a table to use and you may bring whatever you’d like as a visual representation. You are also welcome to bring cultural food for people to sample or food to sell. If you choose to bring food, you will need your own serving materials and a way to keep the food at the desired temperature. If you would like to participate, please email lpetherbridge@apamail.org. We look forward to seeing you at this wonderful event!

Our Campus is in need of Instructors. We gladly welcome our APA families or friends that would like to come and be a part of our elementary team. If you are interested, click the link to fill out an application. https://bit.ly/3t67NBj
APA Reading and Math Lesson Video Bank
Did you know that there are videos for our math lessons on the APA website? This way, if your student is sick for a few days or if they just need another repetition of the teacher teaching it, to get their homework done, they can get the help they need. Just click on the math level your student is and click on the lesson, located on the left-hand side. https://www.americanprep.org/math-and-reading-lessons/
After School Programs
Hello American Preparatory Families!
Congratulations to our Sistema students that completed 100 and 200 homework assignments. They all received a special certificate this week. Well done! Our goal is to complete 20,000 homework assignments afterschool by the end of the school year. We have completed nearly 13,000 assignments thus far. We will have a no missing homework incentive from term 4 on Friday, April 1st. Please check your child’s learning plan daily to help them to stay current with their assignments.
Please make sure your child has their instrument with them every day. We are beginning to learn Spring Concert music and every student needs to be able to participate to be able to perform in the concert. If you see your child, come out to the car with their instrument, please make sure that it is brought inside and not left in the car. The cold winter temperatures could cause harm to the instruments and some might even crack or break due to the weather. I suggest placing their instrument by their backpack as they are getting ready for bed to make sure that it does not get forgotten.
Dates to Remember
- May 19-Mandatory Dress Rehearsal for Spring Concert 3-5:30pm
- May 20-Spring Celebration Concert 6pm-Limited tickets available and must be reserved.
